Goodnight Moon
Poster, Postcards
Identity for art gallery show.
“A nocturne is a piece of art inspired by the nighttime. How does the cover of night obscure or transform our perception of the world around us? And how does the darkness shift our thought patterns and behaviors? Goodnight Moon seeks to expand the nocturne as a space between the metaphysical and the mundane, between fiction and autobiography. We seek to create a space to examine who has access to our bodies and alternate selves as we think about internal experiences manifesting in the external world. It serves us as a community to acknowledge not only the disharmony between our own perceptions of singular events but also the differences between our versions of reality and those of others.”
When working with the curators of the show to create an identity, they communicated that they wanted it to embody or emulate the idea of nighttime and have a “cozy” feeling. Because I felt like there was going to be a wide variety of artworks that depicted the many facets of what a nocturne can be, I decided to keep it simple when it came to the iconography in the identity. The poster being people’s first introduction to the show, I wanted to make sure that the viewer understood the general idea and mood before being taken down the many pathways of the featured nocturnes.
